Bike Walk Vote, the political arm of Portland’s transportation reform movement, wants to get you some face time with this year’s city council, county commission and Metro council candidates.
Ballots for the May 17 primary go out next week. With a gas tax on the ballot that would greatly increase city funding for biking and walking and a backlog of good projects in the works around the city, the 2016 elections are likely to shape Portland transportation for many years.
You can meet and talk to some of Bike Walk Vote’s endorsed candidates at a free event 5 p.m. Sunday at Velo Cult bike shop in the Hollywood neighborhood. Free food and beer will be provided.
Last month, Bike Walk Vote endorsed Sarah Iannarone for Portland mayor; she’s already confirmed on Facebook that she plans to attend.
Other Bike Walk Vote-backed candidates include Steve Novick for city commissioner; Mel Rader and Jessica Vega Pederson for Multnomah County Commission; Bob Stacey, Sam Chase and Craig Dirksen for Metro council; and Tawna Sanchez for state House District 43, inner north and northeast Portland.
If you can’t make the event (which has in past years included a call for optional donations to Bike Walk Vote) you can support the slate of endorsed candidates by contributing online.
Velo Cult is at 1969 NE 42nd Avenue. If you RSVP for the event on Facebook, that’ll help them know how much food is needed.
