Wednesday Video Roundup: pedestrian superheroes, pursuing ostrich, and more

Welcome to this week’s roundup! Our first video (above) shows a cool way to do pedestrian activism: by being a Lucha Libre style superhero. It’s sad it takes this level of absurdity to make a crossing safe, but it still feels like progress. (h/t m.a.)

Yeti Cycles put up a video showing riding in the southwest USA. The terrain is beautiful, stark, and technical. The audio is really nice- not too distracting with music and enough sound for ambience.

This video shows lots of photographs, current and historic, that illustrate what cities designed for people look like. What type of street are you drawn towards? I find I notice it the most when I’m on vacation.

Racer Florian ‘Flo’ Nicolai has a video that is candy for mountain riders. (the section of riding sans hands? nope!) I think the music (“Son of Sam” by Azad) works very well too.

These riders don’t seem to be concerned, but they are being chased by an ostrich. It’s probably the closest we’ll get to Jurassic Park. Note adult ostriches weigh up to 150kg (320lbs), so I’m not sure I’d want one to bump me. (h/t m.a.)

Doping is still in the news for the pro racers, both drugs and mechanical means. What if you don’t want to turn to illegal means? Here’s a list of legal things you can use instead.

Ray of DCRainmaker has a demo of a wearable gimbal. These seem like the next level of improvement to GoPro type cameras. If you think the video is interesting, watch him explain how it is set up.

This week’s honorable mentions: Western Bike Works on Rubino’s new Graphene tires (one layer of atoms is magic, apparently), Cannondale factory MTB racer Anton Cooper interview (worth watching for the New Zealand terrain shots), Specialized Win Tunnel showing gains from their newest aerodynamic shoes, Cyclingtips on how to trackstand (and what to do if you can’t master it), weird bikes at Taipei Bike Show, and hazy/gauzy/dreamy video about road cycling with friends.

Inclusion criteria: If I’ve missed something, post it in the comments! I prefer videos published in the last week or so. Note if there’s a specific point in a long video that is worth highlighting. Also note if there is colorful language. I will delay videos containing pro racing spoilers by 7 days.
