The Weekend Event Guide is sponsored by Abus Bike Locks. Thanks Abus!

March is here and the sun is shining! That means we’re slowly creeping out of winter and into spring.

And that’s not the only thing we’re grateful for today: I’m also happy to share that our friends at Abus bike locks have stepped up once again to support our work and promote their products. Abus is now the title sponsor of our Weekend Guide and the BikePortland Calendar. If your business wants to work with us, opportunities are filling up quickly. Now back to our regularly scheduled plan-making. Here’s the list of the best bikey things to do this weekend…

Friday, March 2nd

This weekly cheery gathering is a great place to meet people, catch up with old friends, and learn how to make great coffee anywhere. Check their website for meet-up location and more.

Kazakhstan to Bulgaria: Bikepacking Central Asia – 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Velo Cult Bike Shop
Last fall, north Portlander Ted Beuhler spent months biking (and riding trains and buses) from Kazakhstan to Bulgaria. And he did it on a budget. Now he has tons of great advice and stories to share. Ask him about the one-minute videos he took of each day on the trip. More info here.

Saturday, March 3rd

20 is Plenty Yard Sign Pick-Up – 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Midland Library

Sunday, March 4th

Women’s Skills Clinic – 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Portland Athletic Center of Excellence (P.A.C.E.)
This OBRA-sanctioned skills clinic is presented by the Oregon Women’s Prestige Series. It’s aimed at teaching you how to be confident and effective riding in a group whether you’re getting ready for a weekend ride with friends or your first race. More info here.

The Sauvie Shootout – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Ovation Coffee & Tea
Portland’s premiere weekly road training ride. This is the place to test your fitness for the fast-approaching road season. Come out and find a group with just the right pace. Route heads out to Sauvie Island and then loops back through the West Hills and Skyline. More info here.

Over the Hills to North Plains – 9:30 am at 2221 NW Allie Ave, Hillsboro (Streets of Tanasbourne parking lot)
Join members of the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club for this Reach the Beach training ride. Route will head toward bucolic roads around Helvetia Tavern with a stop in North Plains for refueling. More info here.
