Weekend Event Guide: Sauvie, Sorella, The Dalles, and a mystery

How about a ride out to Sauvie Island?
(J. Maus/BikePortland)

I’m writing this from Washington D.C., waiting for my plane back to Portland. I don’t want to rub it in too much but it’s sunny and 73-degrees here!

I can’t wait to get home and get back on my bike. Hopefully there’s a nice break in the rain — and hopefully you’ve got plans to ride too. If not, check out the menu of rides below, grab a friend or two, and head out.

Friday, March 10th

Midnight Mystery Ride
Where it stops, nobody knows. We do know however, that it will be fun. Show up and ride late and into the night with friends old and new. It’s a Portland tradition. More info here.

Saturday, March 11th

Sorella Forte Women’s Ride
Come and join this ride if you want to get better at riding in a group and you want to meet the awesome ladies of Sorella Forte — one of Portland’s best riding clubs. Pace and distance set for intermediate riders. More info here.

Sauvie Shootout – 9:00 am at Ovation Coffee (941 NW Overton)
This is a new and unsanctioned training ride that’s set up to accomodate all levels of racers. The 66-mile route goes from northwest out to Sauvie Island and then up into the West Hills and back along Skyline Road. More info here.

Walk and Talk 82nd Ave with ODOT – 10:00 am and 2:00 pm (Namaste Indian Cuisine – 8303 NE Sandy Blvd and Flying Pie Pizzeria – 7804 SE Stark)
As part of their 82nd Avenue of the Roses Implementation Plan, ODOT is hosting walking tours along 82nd Avenue to hear your ideas for how to make the corridor better. Tours are offered in English and Spanish. More info here and here.

Sunday, March 12th

Meet The Portland Wheelmen Touring Club Ride – 10:00 am at Wilshire Park (NE 33rd and Skidmore)
Led by PWTC member Ann Morrow, this 19-mile ride with an easy pace (12-15 mph) along the Columbia River will help you get comfortable riding in a group. Route is flat and easy so this is a great introduction to recreational riding. More info here.

ZooBomb – 8:30 pm at the People’s Bike Library of Portland (aka “the pyle” at SW 13th and Burnside)
Heard of ZooBomb yet? Now you have — and there’s no excuse to not give it a try. Take MAX to the Zoo and “bomb” down the west hills. Adventure awaits. More info here.

Did we miss anything? If so, give it a shout out in the comments.
