Weekend Event Guide: Bike club birthday, donuts, sandwiches, coffee, and more

We love bike ride poster art.

See that glowing orb in the sky right now? That’s the sun!

This winter has been brutal for biking; but we’ve got our fingers crossed for a break in the clouds this weekend.

Hopefully you have some bike adventures planned. If you need some ideas, we’ve got a few suggestions — especially if you like sandwiches, donuts, or coffee.

Have fun out there…

Friday, March 17th

Dropout Bike Club 12th Birthday Weekend Kickoff Ride – 9:30 pm at Colonel Summers Park (SE 20th and Belmont)
The Dropouts are one of Portland’s most endearing bike clubs. They were cool jackets, build and ride amazing freak bikes, and they put on some of the best rolling parties of the year. And their official color is green! Come help them kickoff their birthday weekend. More info here.

Saturday, March 18th

Sorella Forte Women’s Club Ride – 9:00 am at River City Bicycles (706 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd)
Time to get those legs strong and loose for spring and summer adventures! If you want to meet and ride with a great group of women, look no further than Sorella Forte. And why not stop into River City after the ride to peruse the latest bike gear? More info here.

Women of Color Social Donut Ride – 9:30 am at Wilshire Park (NE 35th and Skidmore)
Think Portland needs more women of color on bikes? Want to feel welcome on your bike with others who share your experiences? This is the first ride of a new group in town called Friends on Bikes. Did we mention that everyone who shows up gets a free dozen donuts from Pips? Oh yeah. More info here.

I Need A F***ing Sandwich Ride, 12:45 pm at Franz Bakery (NE 10th and Flanders)
Organizers of this new event want to find “a super special sandwich” via bike each month. Meet under the big twirling loaf of bread outside Franz bakery, ride to work up an appetite, then eat a great sandwich. More info here.

Sunday, March 19th

Reach The Beach Training Ride – 10:00 am at REI in Tanasbourne (2235 NW Allie Ave in Hillsboro)
Join this Portland Wheelmen Touring Club ride through less-traveled rural roads of Washington County. Get ready for the Reach the Beach ride (May 20th) with this 32-mile loop that will include a stop for a drink in North Plains. More info here.

Coffee with Multnomah County Commissioner Jessica Vega Pederson – 10:30 am at Midland Library (805 SE 122nd Ave)
Vega Pederson is the transportation chief for Multnomah County so you should probably get to know her better. The County owns and operates nearly all the major downtown bridges (and the Sauvie Island Bridge too!), not to mention most of the city’s best rural roads (like Skyline and Sauvie). Vega Pederson lives in east Portland so she has a special interest in making roads safer in that part of town — especially near schools. More info here.

Did we miss anything? If so, give it a shout out in the comments.
