Our Weekend Event Guide is sponsored by Abus bike locks.
Well, the forecast has taken a turn from the sunny and dry week; but that’s no reason to stay home. Especially not when there are so many awesome events and rides to do.
Here’s our weekly menu of tasty biking morsels… have fun out there!
Friday, May 12th
Midnight Mystery Ride – 12:00 am, location unknown
I could tell you more; but the meet-up spot, route, and other details are kept in a hermetically sealed chamber until Friday. Check the ride blog day of the event for the details. More info here.
Saturday, May 13th
The Dark Larch – 9:00 am at Dabney State Recreation Area (in Troutdale)
Join the adventurous merry-makers of the Unpaved riding group for an exploration of forests and secret paths in the foothills of Larch Mountain east of Troutdale. Expect decommissioned forest roads, singletrack trails, and more fun surprises. Road or ‘cross bikes with 35-42mm tires strongly recommended. 50 mile loop with 5,400 feet of climbing. More info here.
Sorella Forte Women’s Club Ride – 9:00 am at River City Bicycles (706 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd)
If you have moved beyond the beginner phase of riding and want something a bit more challenging (but not hardcore), this might be the ride for you. Sorella is a great club for women that can introduce you to improved riding skills, fitness, and new friends! More info here.
Beginner Friendly Road Ride – 10:00 am at Western Bikeworks (1015 NW 17th)
This ride is perfect for the road riding curious who are looking for a supportive environment. Expect a 10-15 mile ride that will take two hours max. Oh, and free Stumptown coffee and “lots of smiles” say the organizers. More info here.
Commuter Station – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at River City Bicycles (706 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd)
River City is teaming up with The Street Trust to support Bike More Challenge participants and everyone else who happens to be biking by. They’ll have free snacks and giveaways along with special prizes for anyone who signs up to be a member of The Street Trust. More info here.
Chainbreaker MTB XC Race – All day near Bend
A classic Oregon mountain bike race, the Chainbreaker is a benefit for the Bend Endurance Academy, a nonprofit that encourages and promotes junior athletes. The course is on logging roads and trails northwest of Bend in the Deschutes National Forest. More info here.
Sunday, May 14th
CycloFemme PDX – 12:00 noon at Islabikes (2113 SE 7th Ave)
This is the Portland edition of a global ride that celebrates women who ride. Join Friends on Bikes as they partner with CycloFemme for an easy eight-mile spin mostly on the Springwater Corridor path. Organizers say “Women/Trans/Femme/NB of Color are highly encouraged to join.” Show up a bit early for homemade cookies, coffee, and a stretching session. Also a benefit for World Bicycle Relief. More info here.
Klickitat Trail/Swale Canyon Ride – 8:30 am at Swale Canyon Trailhead (Harms Rd & Centerville Hwy in WA)
Join the Friends of the Columbia Gorge for an off-road (MTBs only!) ride along an old railbed next to Swale Creek with an expert guide. Learn about rock formations and wildlife. Shuttle car will be provided to/from start of the trail. RSVP needed. More info here.
Zoobomb – 8:30 pm at People’s Bike Library of Portland (SW 13th and Burnside)
A proud Portland tradition like no other. Show up, hop on the MAX, hang out on “the hill”, then coast down the hills like you mean it. More info here.
