It’s going to be a hot weekend so we hope you’ve carved out some time to do some pedaling. Whether you like mountain biking, the track, or a classic road century, there’s something to get you excited.
And there just happens to be several really excellent events that are well worth your time. In case you haven’t noticed we’ve been working hard to keep our new event calendar up-to-date and full of all the best bike events in the region.
But we understand if you can’t keep up with everything so we’ve picked the best events for you to consider.
Friday June 3rd
Stub Fest – All Weekend at Stub Stewart State Park
This event goes through the weekend and is held out at Stub Stewart State Park just over the hill near Vernonia. It’s hosted by the Northwest Trail Alliance, a local nonprofit that promotes trail stewardship and off-road cycling. In addition to trail-building and maintenance there will be group rides for all abilities and lots of activities for the kids. It’s a huge celebration of state parks, mountain biking, and our amazing community of trail stewards. Full info here
Saturday, June 4th
Pioneer Century- All day at Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby
This is one of our favorite rides of the season. It starts from Fairgrounds in Canby and the routes loops through some of the most beautiful backroads in the region. You’ll love discovering the same countryside that drew pioneers to the area back in the good ol’ days. The ride is a benefit for the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club, a great nonprofit that pours all the proceeds back into the community via grants and donations. Full info here.
Sunday, June 5th
Adaptive Bike Clinic – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade
Come out and get to know just how diverse bicycles can be — both in terms of how they work and who they work for. This event is a golden opportunity to learn about hand-cycles, recumbents, tricycles, two-seaters, and other bikes that bring the joy of cycling to a whole new group of riders. There will be a clinic and test rides, followed by a group ride at 12:00 pm. It’s free and everyone is welcome. Full info here.
PDW Omnium – 11:00 am at Alpenrose Velodrome
How about a BBQ at the velodrome while watching exciting track racing? Or maybe you’re ready to race the circles yourself? This is the fifth annual Portland Design Works Omnium and it’s sure to be fun for the whole family. They’ll even have root beer floats made with ice cream from the Alpenrose Dairy next door.
