Our event guide is brought to you through a promotional partnership with Abus, makers of fine bike locks. Thank you Abus!
Looks like we’ve got a typically mixed forecast for Friday through Sunday — with Friday being sunny and over 70-degrees! Whether you like clouds and rain or are ready to dry out and be warm, chances are you’ll be happy with the weather. Our menu of rides this week is also varied — from a fun animal-themed jaunt to serious racing and a healthy dose of activism.
Whatever you do, have fun out there this weekend (and pack a rain jacket)!
Friday, Aril 21st
Earth Day Transportation Celebration in the Lloyd – 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Hassalo on Eighth (1061 NE 9th Ave)
Explore the beautiful new plaza of the Hassalo building in the Lloyd District while being regailed with free prizes, treats from Green Zebra, and expert advice and insights from GenZe (e-bike company), Biketown, Go Lloyd, and more. More info here.
Pets on Bikes with Bike Loud PDX – 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Laurelhurst Park (3554 SE Ankeny St)
Portland’s scrappiest bike advocacy group does more than just policy and protests! Join the fine volunteers from Bike Loud PDX for a fun ride featuring whatever animal you love. From the organizers: “Acceptable pets include but are not limited to: dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rocks, children in animal suits, adults in animal suits, and animals of a stuffed nature.” More info here.
Saturday, April 22nd
Sorella Forte Women’s Club Ride – 9:00 am at River City Bicycles (706 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd)
A women-only ride that’s meant for intermediate riders. Sorella is one of Portland’s most organized and welcoming bike clubs. If you show up, be prepared for a 30-40-mile loop at a pace of about 15-17 mph. A great way to meet other riders and fine-tune your group riding skills and fitness. More info here.
Saturday Morning Medley Ride (PWTC) – 9:30 am at Wilshire Park (NE Skidmore & 36th)
Led by a member of the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club, this ride will have several loop options ranging from 25 to 50 miles. Whether you want to venture out to Kelley Point Park or up into the West Hills, come out and enjoy some fine roads and company. More info here.
Sunday, April 23rd
Alpenrose Velodrome Clean-up Day – All day at Alpenrose Velodrome (6149 SW Shattuck Road)
The track doesn’t maintain itself! Whether you ride at this venue during track season or cyclocross season — or you just support the local race scene — consider volunteering to keep the velodrome looking great. There’s lots to do. Wear work clothes! More info here.
Barton Park Circuit Race – All Day at Barton County Park in Estacada (19298 SE Barton Park Rd)
It’s not a crit, it’s not a road race — it’s a 7-mile circuit race on wide-open roads just southeast of Portland. Each lap of the course starts with a relatively gradual climb to the half-way point, then a descent to the start/finish. Get out there! More info here.
Sauvie Shootout – 9:00 am at Ovation Coffee (941 NW Overton)
This is the hottest new group ride in town. We’ve heard rave reviews after its first few editions and the turnout has been very strong. It’s a training ride out to Sauvie Island then up into West Hills and back to northwest. If you want to get faster and ride with a group this is the event for you. Multiple groups will form so riders can find a pace that suits them best. More info here.
Bike Loud PDX Monthly Meeting – 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Rogue Ales & Spirits (928 SE 9th Ave)
Come get plugged-into cycling and transportation activism. This month’s agenda includes: Pedalpalooza rides/actions, a letter about the SE Clinton and 50th intersection, a legislative update, Sunday Parkways, and more. What do you want to talk about? More info here.
Zoobomb – 8:30 pm at “The Pyle” (SW 13th and Burnside)
A little birdy tells us that Zoobomb is undergoing a bit of a renaissance these days. How about heading up the hill with these fine folks to see what all the excitement is about? More info here.
